Community Based Instruction

Community Based Instruction (CBI) is an educational process that provides planned and structured learning opportunities in the local community environment. The clients of Cabin Mountain Living Center will all participate in CBI as we help them achieve the highest level of independence possible while maintaining security and a high quality of life.

CBI provides our clients with opportunities to learn general and specific skills, which can lead to greater independence in the community setting. Examples include ordering from a menu in a restaurant, waiting in line in a grocery store, utilizing the post office, and managing the financial process of the local bank. CBI experiences also help clients establish and maintain appropriate behaviors within the community in a more independent way. CBI provides opportunities for our clients to experience more interactions with typically developing peers, which can be intimidating. This is a great opportunity for the Cabin Mountain clients to implement the social skills they have learned and expand those skills in a real life setting.
